Out of Character (OOC) Posting
I. Be polite. I mean it. While everyone has the right to their own point of view and everyone also has the right to disagree with someone elses point of view, any rude, insulting or offensive posts will be deleted. A first offence gets a private warning, second offence: a public warning. If it happens again, the offender will be banned. On the other hand, try to take comments in the spirit theyre intended hopefully we all have a sense of humour but if conflicts do occur, e-mail, PM or IM me with evidence and Ill look into it.
II. Leading me to language and adult topics. Keep it to 12A or PG-13 level please.
III. We all have real lives and sometimes things come up. Where possible though please leave a post in the Chat forum if you know youll be absent for longer than a week. If this is the case, and your characters are involved in active threads, then they will be NPCed by the admin until the point where they can be put away into RPG limbo. This is especially relevant for canon characters.
IV. On that note, I also have a life outside the Internet and some periods are busier than others. So please dont pester me, youll just annoy me and Ill probably deliberately delay doing whatever it is.
V. Members who do not post for a month without giving notice of extended leave will have their bios deleted or in the case of canon characters, put up for adoption.
Character Creation
I. Follow the bio template, it contains the guidelines for everything required to get your character accepted and so makes both your and my life easier.
II. Once completed, post your bio in the New Arrivals forum and wait. Itll be read over as soon as possible and then it will be either accepted or suggestions made for its improvement.
III. Once accepted, your characters bio will be moved to the Members Bios section and you can begin playing. Any in character posts made for unapproved bios will be deleted without warning.
IV. Canon Characters (CCs) These are characters that have appeared in the books. If you wish to play one, check the List of Canon Characters to see if its available and if so, post a bio for them. Please bear in mind the timeframe, while characters from the Circle Opens series are permissible, none of the occurrences in those books have occurred and obviously they will be four years younger.
V. Original Characters (OCs) Characters created from the depths of our own minds, let your imagination run riot. However, there are some restrictions:
i) Sandry, Tris, Daja and Briar are the only people to have their powers entwined in the way they do. There are to be no others whove experienced similar phenomenon.
ii) Do not conflict with the already established lore. In Magic Steps, its said that Lark has never known of another dance mage besides Pasco so dont create one and have them pottering about in Summersea. It is possible to create one who lives in another far-off country such as Yanjing, but be sensible about it.
iii) No crossovers. Alanna and Daine come from Tortall and they stay in Tortall. The same applies for any other book, film or television series you may be a fan of. And if I see an anime-inspired character, smiting will occur.
iv) No long-lost relatives or old best friends. All of Dajas family are dead. Briars father is not going to turn up out of the blue and try to reclaim his abandoned son, while the rest of his street gang are performing hard labour. However, given the state of the nobility, Sandry has plenty of cousins, aunts and uncles around; while Triss family the merchant house Chandler is big and contains potential for character creation. If you do wish to play someone who has some sort of connection to any existing canon character, ask permission from the player first.
v) No dead people. Anyone who has died in the books stays dead. There is to be no resurrecting of such characters. On the other hand, anyone who dies in the Circle Opens series are obviously not dead yet. If you want to play Bennat Ladraduns time with Pawel Godsforge, thats fine by me.
VI. There is no limitation to the number of characters you can apply for but be sensible. You know best how many you can handle. However, in order to try and ensure accepted characters get played: do not apply for more than one a week.
In Character (IC) Posting
I. You control no character but your own. This means you cannot dictate another persons characters thoughts, speech or actions. This is especially relevant when your character performs some sort of action to another; you can only write what you hope to achieve it is the other players decision whether it succeeds. Equally, you may not abduct nor kill anyone elses character without their players permission. Expect dire consequences if you try.
II. Check your spelling, punctuation and grammar carefully. Typos can happen to anyone but persistently poor SPG will result in warnings, then a restriction in posting rights.
III. Aim for a minimum of six sentences per post. At times I know this can be difficult and shorter posts are acceptable, but try to keep the length up. Stutter posting (one or two sentence replies) will not be tolerated.
IV. As with OOC posts, keep language and topic content to 12A or PG-13 standards. If you are uncertain as to whether youre pushing these boundaries, post a warning in the thread title. If your post is seriously beyond the restrictions set here, it will be edited or in extreme cases deleted and will result in warnings, or with repeated offenders, banning.
V. Death of an original character is up to the player. However, if you wish to kill off your canon character, first consult with me.
